How cycling improved my life

The latest hot topic with me has become cycling and not simply for leisure but for transport. When I tell people I cycle in London they usually look at me as if I’ve lost it completely. To be fair, it is something to get used to, and one has to pay attention and I’ve started to appreciate my helmet (which looks a bit like a pot on my head but who cares really). In the past year I did cycle whenever possible but usually it was on quiet routes without much traffic.

Then I decided to cycle during rush hour since anything is better than standing under someone else’s armpit smashed against an underground window. Or on the way home without a chance of even getting on a train since nobody gets off. On the bike you might get the odd person shouting at you because they are upset you are in their way but it is still better than looking at all the grumpy faces pushed together like sardines on a train (and being one of those sardines).

I even went so far to cycle in lashing rain (and being completely soaked) because I couldn’t bear the idea of morphing into a grumpy sardine again by taking the rush hour tube.

Cycling from A to B has changed my mood and my outlook on things. I feel less stressed when I get home since I was able to cycle it off. It’s cheaper since London transport is so expensive. I get additional exercise which is always good and I gained a bit of independence. Knowing I can just take my bike anywhere releases a feeling of happiness since I don’t have to depend on anyone or anything.

Cycling is not only good for the environment but also for your mental health, give it a try!
